STATUS
Sedentary. 

ABUNDANCE
Common. In general it is the commonest woodpecker in Sierra Morena as a whole.

HABITAT
Woods and copses, from isolated riverside thickets in the campiña to dense Pyrenean-Oak woods. Scarce or absent in large patches of treeless scrub and pseudosteppe habitat.

SEASONAL BEHAVIOUR
Seen all year. 

DISTRIBUTION
Spread evenly throughout the four provinces.
