STATUS
Summer visitor and migrant.

ABUNDANCE
Common.

HABITAT
Takes readily to human constructions for building its mud nests on stables, farmsteads, houses and barns, and even sometimes on lampposts and porches.

SEASONAL BEHAVIOUR
The first ones get back from Africa in mid January and most have left by August. There have been some December sightings that might equally be wintering birds or very early arrivals.

DISTRIBUTION
Well distributed throughout Sierra Morena, though somewhat scarcer in large, wilderness areas (Sierra de Hornachuelos, northern Sierra de Andújar, southern hills of Baños de la Encina and La Carolina, catchment areas of Benajarafe and Névalo, etc).

COMMENTS
Forms post-breeding roosts that are sometimes huge in wetlands with vegetation cover, such as certain stretches of the River Guadalquivir or small reservoirs (Zocueca, Minas de Cala, La Roncadera).
