STATUS
Sedentary.

ABUNDANCE
Common.

HABITAT
Mediterranean woodland and patches of scrub. Occasionally in dehesas and forestry plantations.

SEASONAL BEHAVIOUR
Year round presence. Breeding activity starts in January-February and fledglings are seen from late April to September.

DISTRIBUTION
Occurs throughout the whole Sierra Morena, numbers peaking in the flat lowland areas of mixed farmland known as campi帽a and in scrubland of C贸rdoba, Seville and Ja茅n.

COMMENTS
Locals claim that its numbers are falling. It is a favourite hunting trophy and underpins a thriving economy in La Carolina and roundabout.

THREATS
Genetic contamination caused by releases of farm-bred birds is a low-profile but apparently important threat in Sierra Morena, especially in the western half.
