STATUS Winter visitor and breeding birds that are probably sedentary.
ABUNDANCE Common in winter and scarce in summer.
HABITAT Breeds on rivers with rocky beds and little vegetation, also reservoirs. In winter takes up residence in all types of open spaces (dehesas, grassland, cropland, rivers, reservoir shores, town and village streets and squares, etc), forming roosts in some bigger towns.
SEASONAL BEHAVIOUR Foreign birds remain from October-November to March.
DISTRIBUTION In winter more frequent in the mountainous western zone than the east, though it abounds in the campi帽a of Ja茅n and C贸rdoba.
COMMENTS The British subspecies, Pied Wagtail M. a. yarrellii, rarely turns up in Sierra Morena; there are only a few records in Huelva, Seville and C贸rdoba.
