STATUS
Sedentary, topped up by some wintering birds and migrants.

ABUNDANCE
Abundant though relatively few breed (350+ pairs).

HABITAT
Very wide ranging though its main feeding areas are dehesas, pastureland and food- rich Mediterranean woodland (carrion from both livestock and wild animals).

SEASONAL BEHAVIOUR
Seen all year, numbers peaking from November to February. Migration is most notable in October and November.

DISTRIBUTION
In Seville there are several colonies adding up to 106 pairs; in C贸rdoba there are cliff-nesting colonies in Sierra de Hornachuelos (138 pairs) while Ja茅n has 107 fairly scattered breeding pairs. Does not breed in Huelva. The non-breeding population is much bigger however; official counts throw up a figure of 7000 wintering Griffon Vultures in Sierra Morena. Easy to spot, therefore, in all four provinces.

COMMENTS
Numbers of this species soared in the nineties and then levelled out afterwards. Tagged birds (of all ages but especially juveniles and immatures) turn up in Sierra Morena every year, coming from such sites as Alicante, Castell贸n or Zaragoza.
