STATUS
Sedentary, topped up by non-breeding immatures and foreign birds.

ABUNDANCE
259 pairs in the whole of Sierra Morena (2011).

HABITAT
Breeding colonies are established in large areas of woodland, pinewoods and Mediterranean woodland, without much human disturbance. Favoured feeding grounds are dehesas, pastureland and patches of scrub.

SEASONAL BEHAVIOUR
Seen all year. Its breeding season is long, stretching more or less from January to August-September. Also frequent incursions of young birds and adults from colonies outside Andalusia, especially from November to December.

DISTRIBUTION
Breeds in all four provinces. Commonest in Huelva (93 pairs in Sierra Pelada and nearby); two Seville colonies add up to 65 pairs; in C贸rdoba confined to P. N. Sierra de Hornachuelos (36 pairs) and in Ja茅n to Sierra de And煤jar (65 pairs). Like all scavengers, however, the Cinereous Vulture ranges very widely to feed so it is very easy to see throughout the whole cordillera, especially with the top-up of non-breeding birds.

COMMENTS
This is one of the marquee species of Sierra Morena, which boasts the whole Andalusian population. Studies of the Seville population have shown idiosyncrasies in its breeding behaviour, with m茅nages a trois and double clutches in some territories.

THREATS
Its situation is stable with a slight increase, though it is beset by significant threats. Prime among them is the eating of poisoned bait, which has affected some colonies, habitat destruction and nuisance caused by forestry practices (Eucalyptus plantations) in the Huelva colony of Sierra Pelada.
