ABUNDANCE
Scarce as migrant, rare as winter visitor and very rare as breeder (0-3 pairs).

Spring passage of this species, accounting for most of the sightings, occurs from March to May, and post-breeding passage from August to October. In some spots it behaves as a winter visitor and in others as a summer visitor.

Possibly breeds, at least sporadically, in Jaén, on the River Guadalquivir (Marmolejo Reservoir) and Zocueca Reservoir. There is also an old record of certain breeding at Minas de Cala Reservoir (1993). On migration might be seen anywhere. In winter regularly recorded at Llanos de Guaditoca (Guadalcanal), and in Guadalquivir valley between Montoro and Villanueva de la Reina.
