STATUS
Apparently sedentary breeder, winter visitor and migrant.

ABUNDANCE
Scarce as breeder, and common in winter.

HABITAT
Breeds in moist woods like Alder carrs and other riparian woodland, Sweet-Chestnut woods, Pyrenean-Oak woods and cooler areas in pinewoods. Winter birds are much more eclectic, turning up in almost any wooded area and also in Cistus scrub and other patches of scrub.

SEASONAL BEHAVIOUR
Wintering birds appear in November and stay until March-April. Recorded all year round in the breeding areas.

DISTRIBUTION
Patchy distribution throughout the cordillera. Its strongholds are the pinewoods of the eastern end (Despe帽aperros, Aldeaquemada) and the riparian woods, Sweet-Chestnut woods, Cork-Oak woods and mixed woodland of Sierra de Aracena y Picos de Aroche. Much scarcer in Seville, where it is confined to riparian woods of the Hu茅znar and Ciudadeja rivers. Rare in C贸rdoba, appearing at least in some shadier pinewoods of Villaviciosa de C贸rdoba). Much more widely distributed in winter, when it might be seen almost anywhere.
