STATUS
Sedentary, maybe with some input of wintering birds.

ABUNDANCE
Very scarce.

HABITAT
Pinewoods, almost exclusively of Maritime Pine Pinus pinaster.

SEASONAL BEHAVIOUR
Currently seen all year in its breeding areas. Numbers do seem to rise in winter.

DISTRIBUTION
This species is at the moment confined to the pinewoods of Despeñaperros and Aldeaquemada, where it is locally common.

COMMENTS
The Coat Tit has colonised Sierra Morena in recent times, appearing in Despeñaperros at the end of the C20th. Its expansion is likely to continue westwards through the pinewoods of northern Jaén.
