STATUS
Sedentary.

ABUNDANCE
Abundant.

HABITAT
This is the most characteristic Corvid of Mediterranean woodland, preferring patches of scrub with scattered trees though it also occupies dehesas, pinewoods, Cork-Oak woods, mixed woodland and riverside copses, normally in sunny areas. Often strikes up a close relationship with man (in orchards of towns and villages and picnic areas, etc).

SEASONAL BEHAVIOUR
Remains all year.

DISTRIBUTION
Well distributed, though peters out in the moister, more wooded areas (for example in the higher parts of Sierra de Aracena).

COMMENTS
The Iberian variety, cooki, endemic to the Iberian peninsula, is considered by some authorities to be a separate species though most reckon it to be a subspecies.
