This trail takes us up to the peak called Cerro del Névalo, still topped by ruins of its old castle. From its 812 metres, in a remote, lonely and thickly-wooded area, we can look down on one of the most stunning views in Sierra Morena Cordobesa. In the shadier parts of the pinewoods breed some of the scarcest local birds, like Firecrest and Iberian Chiffchaff. Sightings up top might include Booted and Short-Toed Eagles, Griffon and Cinereous Vultures and Goshawk. Another winged denizen we might see here is the threatened butterfly Marsh Fritillary. More information in the book Birding and Nature Trails in Sierra Morena Cordobesa. |
