Pine plantations may not be natural in the C贸rdoba sierra but they have by now built up their own wildlife roster that is well worth exploring. One of the best spots to do so is Cabeza Aguda. Redstarts, a local rarity, have one of their strongholds in this vast woodland, accompanied by Wood Lark, Rock Bunting, Great-Spotted Cuckoo, Nuthatch, Crested Tit and Booted Eagle. At ground level we might well chance across Fire Salamander, Southern Marbled Newt, Iberian Parsley Frog and lovely butterflies like Brimstone and Provence Hairstreak. More information in the book Birding and Nature Trails in Sierra Morena Cordobesa.
