In its middle reaches the River Guadalbarbo forms a wide gorge of stunning beauty, the olive-clad bank on one side contrasting markedly with the rich Mediterranean scrub on the other. Rocky outcrops here and there form steepling crags, providing nesting sites for Alpine Swift, White-Rumped Swift, Red-Rumped Swallow, Crag Martin, Blue Rock Thrush, Kestrel and Spotless Starling, with spasmodic presence of Black Restart and Chough. A dash of colour is added by several orchid species and the Paperwhite Narcissus. More information in the book Birding and Nature Trails in Sierra Morena Cordobesa. |
