STATUS
Summer breeder. Also a migrant and a few overwinter.

ABUNDANCE
Common in the whole Sierra Morena and abundant in some areas. Rare as winter visitor.

HABITAT
Woodland raptor with versatile habitat choice. Found in dehesas, pinewoods, hillsides of Mediterranean woodland, Eucalyptus copses, riverside copses and woods, etc.

SEASONAL BEHAVIOUR
Usually remains from March to September (some until October), though still seen in winter in some spots.

DISTRIBUTION
Well distributed throughout, perhaps more abundant in the pinewoods of Despeñaperros and the catchment areas of the rivers Benajarafe and Névalo. There are records of wintering birds in the campiña of Montoro and at both ends of Sierra Morena Sevillana (in the north and the southern foothills).
