STATUS
Summer visitor and migrant

ABUNDANCE
Scarce (c. 75 pairs).

HABITAT
All the colonies are on human constructions, in towns and village or on old farmsteads out in the country. Needs surrounding campiña, cropland and pastureland for hunting.

SEASONAL BEHAVIOUR
Gets back from February onwards the last birds leaving in early October. There is some passage in February-March and July-September as well as some wintering records (December and January).

DISTRIBUTION
Does not breed in Huelva or Córdoba, while only one colony remains in Seville (Guadalcanal, 22 pairs). Jaén accounts for most, shared out in the colonies of Villanueva de la Reina (32 pairs), Baños de la Encina (c. 6 pairs) and La Carolina (c. 15 pairs).

COMMENTS
The original La Carolina colony disappeared back in 1981 and the current colony exists thanks to a reintroduction scheme carried out by SEO-Jaén and Ecologistas en Acción using the hacking technique.
