STATUS
Migrant and winter visitor.

ABUNDANCE
Common.

HABITAT
Wetlands of all type (rivers and streams, reservoirs, ponds, ditches and pools), although it tends to shun any rivers with thick vegetation.

SEASONAL BEHAVIOUR
This wader has a long migration period and winter visitors come back early, so can be seen nearly all year.

DISTRIBUTION
Well distributed throughout.

COMMENTS
A flighty river- and streamside sentinel that flies up with its characteristic alarm to alert other birds of our presence.
