STATUS
Winter visitor and migrant. 

ABUNDANCE
Scarce, with a slightly upward trend in recent years.

HABITAT
Mainly reservoirs but also smaller bodies of open water and wide stretches of the biggest rivers.

SEASONAL BEHAVIOUR
Seen for much of the year, since the early birds arrive in July and the last leave in March or even April. 

DISTRIBUTION
Appears on all sizeable reservoirs though never in high numbers. Also seen on the Guadalquivir and the lower reaches of the Guadiato.
