STATUS
Sedentary.

ABUNDANCE
Common.

HABITAT
Gardens, parks and tree-lined streets in towns and cities. Also around livestock fodder troughs and fattening houses, pig sties and sheep folds and other livestock farming areas. Seldom seen outside areas of human influence.

SEASONAL BEHAVIOUR
Year round presence.

DISTRIBUTION
Spread throughout the whole Sierra Morena, with higher numbers in livestock farming areas of Huelva, Seville and Jaén foothills.

COMMENTS
First recorded in Aracena in 1994, and in Cazalla de la Sierra in 2000. This species has a bad press as an invader and is often blamed for the decline in Turtle Doves. There is no real evidence for this, nor for its supposed harm to harvests. It should always be remembered that it colonised the area under its own steam like many other species that nonetheless enjoy a much better reputation such as the White-Rumped Swift or Red-Rumped Swallow.
