The River Odiel, Huelva’s iconic watercourse, is officially born in Marimateos. Around it grows the fabulous Dehesa de La Orapía, a thinned-out grazing wood with huge Portuguese Oaks, Cork Oaks and Holm Oaks. Pride of place among the birds goes to Iberian Chiffchaff, Wryneck, Hawfinch, Crag Martin, Melodious Warbler and Cirl Bunting. The Spanish Funnel-Web Spider, the Southwest Iberian Worm Lizard and the scarce Southern Hawker add a further dash of interest to this trail.
